Medical Surgical Nursing

Welcome to Medical Surgical Nursing department. This is a broad area that focuses on the care of patients with different medical conditions or diseases and those who are preparing for or recovering from surgery (perioperative care).

Medical-Surgical Nursing is the heartbeat of Nursing as it is responsible for up to two thirds of all courses offered in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree. Some of the courses offered in the medical surgical nursing department include; Nursing skills, Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Forensic, Theatre and Perioperative Nursing, Trauma and Emergency Nursing and Critical Care & Nephrology Nursing. 

The department trains the student to independently perform their activities in the promotion of health, prevention of disease, care of the ill and dying and key role focus on evidence based practice and professional development in the care delivery system. The clinical services of the department include clinical supervision of students, patient care, in-service education, conduction of awareness programs, health screening, clinical administration and research activities.

Our aim is to develop students with knowledge and competencies in diverse clinical skills, excellent professional judgement and decision making in provision of quality health care.
